Hello, Taylor's University

One of the best feelings in the world is being able to wake up in the natural light of day without being blasted out by the annoying screech of the alarm clock. Trust me, 99.99% of the people in the whole wide world would agree with what I just said. Don't you?

Well. No more waiting for the sun to shine through the crevices the lacy curtains made way for. No more sleeping for as long as my sweet dreams last. No more catching TVB dramas every evening. No more attending events as off-handedly as I always wished to. No more "looking for" activities in hope to "kill time". No more enjoyment of the luxury of being unimportant to the society.

It's time to kiss my superbly long holiday goodbye. However reluctant I may feel does not change a thing. It's about time to get back on track and resume this endless adventure called "life".

I've left  my very first footprint (not really the first..maybe "officially the first" is more appropriate) in Taylor's University Lakeside Campus yesterday. In any case you might be wondering, I've actually enrolled into the School of Communication in Taylor's.

"Why choose 'communication' above all the other disciples?" "Aren't you previously a Science-stream student?" "Waa Jessica, your grades aren't bad in SPM, why don't you go for science-related courses such as Pharmacy..?"

Well, I have lost count of the times being rained with all these questions. To be honest, I've done a lot of questioning to myself too. My mind was in turmoil for the past few months as I really couldn't settle on a decision. More specifically, I was in a dilemma in choosing the courses I've already shortlisted.

So what have I shortlisted for myself? Three completely different types of courses in my mind: Biosciences, Business and Mass Communication. After months of dither, I've finally concluded that my tertiary education shall take its path in the School of Communication. I did not choose it because it is said to be "easy". Absolutely, no. But one thing I know for sure is that I love writing, and also communicating with people because I always learn something new through socializing. As I always thought that I would be more likely to enjoy the job prospects in the industry of media and communication, my ultimate choice is Mass Comm.

Often, word on the street would always ring and ring by our ears, suggesting how Mass Comm isn't "professional", only "students with low qualifications" would enroll in Mass Comm, the job prospects are "vague", this con, that bane; even a calculator would have lost count. But who are these people, who irresponsibly started such high-impact rumors proven by no statistical nor solid evidence? Who are they to say anything about what the future holds for Mass Comm disciples? Rumors go round and round, everyone starts to pass on the same "info" and isn't that exactly how rumors begin to sound "real" and "reliable"? If you have heard that Mass Comm students couldn't excel in the future, couldn't get a lucrative job or something like that; please, discard them off your mind. There also isn't such a "fact" whereby only Medical students or Business students are guaranteed to be able to secure a well-paid job in the future! Didn't our teacher always motivate us by the saying: "All roads lead to Rome"? Ultimately, what I am trying to convey is that everyone can carve their own path and succeed in their very own ways, not necessarily by blindly obeying the "guide towards success" indoctrinated to our innocent minds since youth.

I'm all ready to take on any challenges to come. This shall be a turning point in my life: I want a change for myself, and I want Taylor's to forever remember that "Jessica Chaw once left her footprints here."

Okay, now I will continue my story of my first two days in Taylor's haha! Well, I know most of you bear such a perception whereby Taylor's students are super rich. Firstly, I have to clarify that I'm not rich, the financial status of my family is really mediocre. I'm fighting for every cent of scholarship I can manage to qualify myself for, the burden upon my parents' shoulder is really heavy. Secondly, having been there to see for myself, I don't think all of the Taylorians are super rich la okay. And it isn't that everyone likes to show off lol.

During the first two days of school, I've met new friends and they are just really friendly and humble haha! Besides, it surprised me that there were some of my readers in school and they actually approached and greeted me! Um, if you are studying at Taylor's too, you will probably see me trudging about the campus for a year or so haha! Please do say hi if you happen to bump into me okay! :B

So far, I'm satisfied with everything in Taylor's. I am really grateful to be a student of a university with such a beautiful environment! There is even a well-equipped gym and my mum actually encourages me to hang out more often in the gym haha! The library is amazing, it has 5 levels and there are spacious discussion rooms, computer labs, mini theater and other well-maintained facilities. Anyway, I noticed that the washrooms are quite clean lolllll. So much unlike the toilets in high school which are so dirty and gross.

By the way I'm not paid to advertise and compliment on Taylor's okay hahahaha!!

Anyway, the despicable fact remains that I must wake up at 6am in the morning in order to prepare myself for school. I have to head out earlier and even allocate extra time just in case I might be trapped in occasional massive traffic congestion. Conclusion: I really hate waking up in the early morning!!

I have so much more to share actually but I'm now dead tired...so I shall continue my stories the other day! :P

Till then, bye! ♥
