I have an ardent obsession for Japanese cuisine. I love sushi, sashimi and udon; but I never really fancied Tonkatsu. I used to think that Tonkatsu tastes just like chicken cutlet, and I always wonder why people are willing to pay so much for the "better" Tonkatsu. Almost all Japanese cuisine chains offer Tokatsu at reasonable prices, so why pay more for the "better" Tonkatsu? Aren't they the same anyway? Apparently, my mum had the same thought too haha!!
Just yesterday, I gave my very first try to Tonkatsu by Ma Maison, a recommendation by my blue-haired company, Coey! I was actually quite skeptical about her reviews no matter how she described how great their Tonkatsu is. Plus, she kept emphasising: "You must try it!!! It's damn delicious, trust me!!!!"
Since she's so positive about it, so why not?

There are 2 branches, one in Publika (where we visited) and another in 1 Utama.

Tonkatsu by Ma Maison exclusively serves up a variety of Tonkatsu dishes; breaded deep-fried pork cutlets that is popular in Japan. Tonkatsu by Ma Maison uses only the highest grade ingredients from the Hire (fillet) to the Rosu (loin) and all prepared to perfection, its juicy and tender meat is the result of Ma Maison’s own preparing method.

Sugar (sweet sauce) and spice and everything nice. Btw, the bottle in creamy white (behind the sweet sauce) holds the sesame dressing while the bottle in black contains the Tamari sauce!

Oroshi (White radish) was served to whet our appetite! You may give the taste a twist with the Tamari dressing, or simply eat it on its own!

Some guidelines on how to eat Tonkatsu - the perfect way.

I find the ambiance very comfortable and relaxing: it is all thanks to the warm lights, comfy furniture, and a spacious interior!

My partner-in-crime.

This is not a normal cup of green tea. In fact, it is a cup of ROASTED green tea. You can literally feel the "roast" in your throat and the aftertaste is very strong and satisfying. Almost perfect for green-tea fans like me!

Deep fried oysters. (1 for RM5.50)
My goodness. This is simply perfection. I've never tried fried oysters before and the first bite already rocked me off the chair! The outer layer couldn't be anymore crispier, and only to top it off, the oyster underneath the crust was so juicy!!
Grab a pen and paper, mark the yummy Deep Fried Oysters down into your "must-order" list right now!!

Yay here comes my set - The Jumbo Mameton Set (RM35.90)
Living up to its name, the tempura prawn really was a jumbo indeed, and it was super delicious! The pork fillets and pork loins were thick and not too oily to the palate! However, I find them lacking of tenderness and "juiciness".

Close-up shot! Oh ya, every set is served along with cabbage, rice and tonjiru (soup) and they are all refillable!

The taste of the pork fillets dipped with the special Tartar sauce was exhilarating. The sauce magically imbues tanginess to the taste of the deep-fried fillets.

Coey's Jumbo Hire Katsu Set (RM32.90)
Pork fillets in jumbo size - one of the best ways to wash your hunger away with satisfaction!

The size of these pork fillets were actually bigger that they appear to be in the photos!

The dishes served here all come in very generous portions - my tummy was filled to its brim! Hands down, definitely worth the price.
I am so going to recommend this restaurant to Mummy Chaw. I am sure she will fall in love with the tempuras heh!
