MY LISBON ITINERARY & PHOTOLOG

Lisbon has officially become one of my (top) favourite cities in Europe! And you will know why as you read this blog post.

DAY ONE (30.10. 2019)
We arrived on 30 October in the afternoon, but by the time we were done with all the immigration process and checked-in our hotel (we stayed at the Corinthia Lisbon Hotel btw), it was already the evening. Hence, we honestly didn't do much other than having a late lunch in our hotel and going out for a night stroll at Avenida da Liberdade street after that.

DAY TWO (31.10.2019)
So moving forward to the next day, which is the 1st of November, we departed to a city tour with a private tram after having our breakfast at the hotel.

Trams are one of the main public transportation in Lisbon, dated from the 1930s. And also one of the reasons why trams are still being used in Lisbon is because some of the historic sections in Lisbon are super narrow and steep with sharp turns, so only the Remodelado trams can pass through those undulating tracks!

By the way, trams are also the best way to explore the city and enjoy the beautiful sceneries along the way. I enjoyed the tram experience thoroughly, because it felt as if I was being transported back to the olden days, experiencing what it's like living in the ancient times. Looking out of the window of the trams to enjoy the beautiful buildings and architecture of Lisbon, admiring the beauty of them and taking them all in...I really miss that feeling!

So it's definitely an experience not to be missed when you are in Lisbon!

Also, the trams are really photo-worthy!

We also stopped by the oldest cafe in Lisbon, Confeitaria Nacional (founeded in 1829) to try out the authentic Portugese pastries and coffee!

In Alfama district, you will get to walk through the little narrow streets and discover different wall arts that narrate the history of the city.
This is Miradouro de Santa Luzia, a beautiful look out point in Lisbon with panoramic views over the old Alfama district. A very romantic place, indeed.
Then, we visited the São Jorge Castle. Located on the highest hill of Lisbon, the São Jorge Castle offers an intoxicating panoramic view of the city, making it one of the most emblematic landmarks in Lisbon. (The adult admission fee to the Castelo de São Jorge is €10.00; children under 10 are free)
After touring around the Alfama district, we headed to our lunch place, a Michelin guide restaurant called Restaurante Tágide. (Yes, this photo was taken at the balcony of the restaurant and it's my favourite shot in Lisbon!!!)

This restaurant serves really delicious food!! Their codfish is remarkably scrumptious!
After lunch, we walked to the Elevador da Bica, one of the most popular and Instagrammable funiculars in Lisbon!

So we explored down the street and found this spot where we can capture the moment when the tram goes up/down!! Definitely another favourite shot of mine!

Walk around the street of Chiado, you will see the oldest bookstore in the world - Livraria Bertrand. Can you believe that it has 300 years of history?!
DAY THREE (01.11.2019)

My friend, Asma', and I woke up really early to get ready and we Uber-ed to the Pink Street for pictures!

This street is actually a spot for people who want to experience the nightlife in Lisbon as it's filled with pubs and bars. But I absolutely enjoyed coming here in the morning to get a peaceful and quiet sight of this street haha! (Oh, and also it's a golden opportunity to get nice shots without anyone photo-bombing your photos hahaha)

Later on, we departed to the National Palace of Mafra, recently recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Built by king João V, this palace features an awe-inspiring Baroque and Neoclassical architectural style. Upon entering the palace, you will be in awe with all the art pieces, furniture, sculptures, etc.

The magnificent library houses over 36,000 books. Isn't it majestic? (To preserve these treasures, visitors are not allowed to enter the library area)

Look at how gorgeous these pink and blue marbles are?!
After visiting Mafra, we then headed to Ericeria, a fishing village that is situated along a coastline of outstanding surfing beaches. And along the street you can find these blue paintings on the wall, which I find super cute!
Lunch at Hotel Vila Galé Ericeria
After lunch, we continued our journey to Sintra, a picturesque town that boasts exotic gardens and stunning palaces - literally like a page straight out of a fairytale storybook!

In Sintra, we visited the Palacio Nacional da Vila (Sintra National Palace). This palace blended Manueline styles and Moorish architecture. The most visually striking exterior feature of the Palacio Nacional de Sintra are the two large chimneys that were built to vent the large kitchens fires and ovens away from the main chambers of the Palacio Nacional de Sintra.

Due to shortage of time, we couldn't spend more time in Sintra 😿. Wish I could go back again and visit more places, like the Pena Palace!
DAY FOUR (02.11.2019)
On our fourth day, we visited
Belém, a district to the west of Lisbon.

One of the most iconic landmarks in Belém is of course the Belém Tower. It was built as a fortress between 1514 and 1520, which means it has more than 500 years of history.

When in Belem, one must try the famous PORTUGESE TART at Pastéis de Belém!!! Founded in 1837, it's one of the most famous Portugese egg tart shops in Portugal with crowds making a beeline in front of the shop daily. By the way, do you know that they sell about 20,000 egg tarts every day?! On weekends, the number may double as well!
Stands 170 Ft (52 m) tall, the Padrão dos Descobrimentos was designed to commemorate the Age of Discoveries in Portugal. The Monument to the Discoveries is made up of a group of sculptures that represent the prow of a caravel (a small sailing ship constructed by the Portuguese to explore the Atlantic Ocean). Leading the ship is Prince Henry the Navigator and behind him are many other great Portuguese discoverers. You can also visit the observation deck on the top of the building for a scenic view of Belem.

During afternoon, we just randomly strolled around the streets for photos and tea. This photo was taken at a cafe called Dear Breakfast.

If you have some free time and want to do some shopping, you can find some luxury designer goods at Avenida da Liberdade, Chanel, Gucci, LV, Prada, Cartier, just to name a few.

Although the Chanel store in Lisbon is only a small-scaled 'pop up store', I was lucky to find my Chanel Boy bag in black that I've been eyeing for since ages ago!! Also, you can get a VAT refund of 12.0% – 15.0% of your purchase amount in Lisbon 🤭

The next day, we checked-out our hotel, headed to the airport and said goodbye to Lisbon.

It was a fantastic trip. Thank you so much #VisitLisboa for introducing me your beautiful city. I can't get over how picturesque the entire city is, and would definitely love to be back!

Till next time, Lisbon.
